Situazione e patologia. Un approccio critico tra Sartre e Basaglia

This essay reconstructs a shared critical framework between Sartre's philosophy of freedom-in-situation and Basaglia's antipsychiatric practice. Drawing on Being and Nothingness and the Critique of Dialectical Reason, it argues that Sartrean freedom is never abstract but always bound to and constituted by a concrete situation — a paradox Basaglia translates into clinical terms: pathology is not an individual biological deficit but the historically and institutionally situated expression of a subject caught within relations of power. Both thinkers, the essay shows, invert the pathological affects of anguish, nausea, and shame, treating them not as symptoms but as revelations of freedom and responsibility, while relocating the "true" pathology onto bad faith and the bourgeois order that manufactures deviance to sustain its own contradictions.
