The tumor microenvironment represents the arena where pro- and antitumor forces collide. As in every battlefield, signs of the fight can be recognized by an expert eye, like the eye of the pathologist. In addition to the evaluation of complete/partial tumor response, several histomorphological features can be identified for the evaluation of the efficacy of neoadjuvant therapies for the treatment of bladder cancer. For instance, a tumor regression grade system has been described to score response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy based on a combination of residual tumor and stromal activation/fibrosis. Similar histological scoring systems are under study after neoadjuvant immunotherapy, an incoming game-changing therapeutic strategy in the field of bladder cancer. Therefore, there is a growing interest to assess the morphologic changes associated with response to neoadjuvant treatments, with the aim to refine the prognostic reliability of complete pathologic response and to design specific histology-based scoring systems to predict immune checkpoint inhibitor’s therapeutic efficacy.

Abstract
Therefore, there is a growing interest to assess the morphologic changes associated with response to neoadjuvant treatments, with the aim to refine the prognostic reliability of complete pathologic response and to design specific histology-based scoring systems to predict immune checkpoint inhibitor’s therapeutic efficacy.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
