In my paper I apply phenomenology as eidetics and qualitative ontology to the field of social ontology and I provide an analysis of qualitative social ontology focusing on collective subjects’ conditions of existence and identity. Thus, I distinguish between types of collective subjects that are qualitatively different, in virtue of both the diverse forms of intentionality, which bind and commit individuals to one another, and the various spheres of values, which orient individuals’ living and acting within collectives. I show that the different types of collectives are characterized by various degrees of social unity and embed several meanings of “complicity”.

Abstract

In my paper I apply phenomenology as eidetics and qualitative ontology to the field of social ontology and I provide an analysis of qualitative social ontology focusing on collective subjects’ conditions of existence and identity. Thus, I distinguish between types of collective subjects that are qualitatively different, in virtue of both the diverse forms of intentionality, which bind and commit individuals to one another, and the various spheres of values, which orient individuals’ living and acting within collectives. I show that the different types of collectives are characterized by various degrees of social unity and embed several meanings of “complicity”.
