Purpose: We evaluated the results of gamma knife radiosurgery (GKR) in 60 uveal melanomas treated between 1994 and 2004. Methods: The mean age was 61 years (31 - 77). The mean follow-up was 36.8 months (1 - 115). Results: The Kaplan-Meyer 5-year survival rate was 80.1%. We achieved local tumor control in 55 patients (91.6%). The mean tumour thickness before GKR was 6.1 mm and after GKR was 4.09 mm (P < .0001). Tumor regrowth occurred in 5 patients (8.3%). The eye retention rate was 91.6%. Four out of five patients with tumor regrowth died for metastasis. Conclusion: Our results suggest that GKR may represent an alternative to enucleation for uveal melanomas.

Abstract
Conclusion: Our results suggest that GKR may represent an alternative to enucleation for uveal melanomas.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
