In this paper, I introduce to the main studies in philosophy, phenomenological psychopathology and psychiatry regarding shame, with a specific focus on Sartrean phenomenology. I explain the significance of shame experiences, and their formal structure: how do we experience shame, and why is it so important for our lives?
