The acquisition of solid skills for planning of careers has always represented a challenge for a Young Scientist (YS). The current desire for a restart after the recent pandemic, places even more attention on these issues, offering young specialists in Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine the possibility of being the driving force behind this restart. To do this, it is essential to invest in own skills, develop an accurate strategy, be a change maker and, sometimes, think outside the box. This paper collects some important themes discussed during the conference “Young Scientists: the engine of Laboratory Medicine” organized by the SIBioC YS Study Group, which took place in Modena (Italy) in December 2023.
