This article presents a protocol for differential diagnosis of painful syndromes related to dental sources and those attributable to other medical felds, that is used at the Department of Dentistry of the Scientifc Institute San Raffaele in Milan. It emphasis the need for correct differential diagnosis prior to decide on the appropriate etiologically based treatment.
