Abstract

This paper aims to investigate the connection between the French Revolution and the origin of Fichte’s Wissenschaftslehre. In doing so, the Author reconstructs some of the key moments in the historiographical debate on this issue. He then goes on to show how Fichte, starting from the concrete historical event of the French Revolution, gave shape to the “Science of Knowledge” in the form of a “system of liberty”.
