An attempt at a phenomenological foundation of a psychology of the person is made on the basis of relevant writings by Husserl, Scheler, Geiger, Stein, and von Hildebrand among others. The original contribution made by these phenomenologists (over and above Husserl's Personal Ontology) is discussed, thereby introducing the reader to a rich phenomenology of the emotional Ufe, its structure, the role it plays in the constitution of a person's ethos. Phenomenology in this «realist», less known versión of it displays a power of analysis which is not even dreamt of by analytical philosophy of mind and the emotions, at least in its present state. An introduction to the core of a phenomenological theory of personal identity (egological acts of the stratified emotional life) is outlined. An overall revisión of commonplace ideas on Husserlian and non-Husserlian phenomenology is proposed.
