According to Benjamin’s view, language shows the division between auctoritas and potestas, between the divine and the sensible order. The divine word through which God creates and knows decays into human referring, thus making the falseness of the speech possible. Each language translates an original source as well as each political authority justifies itself as an interpreter of truth: the original is not translatable, to the same extent in which the truth is not achievable in political terms. Progress is changed into a succession of catastrophes and the method of politics all over the world becomes nihilism, because it represents the attempt of splitting the divine and the sensible sphere: in this framework the messiah’s advent is not a goal, a fulfillment, but an end,an interruption.
Secondo la prospettiva di Benjamin, la lingua mostra la divisione tra auctoritas e potestas, tra l’ordine divino e quello sensibile. La parola divina attraverso la quale Dio crea e conosce, decade in linguaggio umano rendendo così possibile la falsità del discorso. Ogni lingua traduce una fonte originale così come ogni autorità politica si giustifica come interprete della verità: l’originale non è traducibile, nella stessa misura in cui la verità non è realizzabile in termini politici. Il progresso si trasforma in una successione di catastrofi e il metodo della politica in tutto il mondo diventa il nichilismo, perché rappresenta il tentativo di scissione tra il divino e la sfera sensibile: in questo quadro l’avvento del Messia non è un traguardo, un compimento, ma un arresto, un’interruzione.
